Cultural Reforesting

Cultural Reforesting is currently being developed in West Wales, on a farm site, Coed Gwenllian.

The purpose of this programme is to create a methodology for communities to analyse and redesign their relationship to all parts of their environment, from soils to the clouds, including the intuitive inclusion of digital technologies.

At the centre of this multi-faceted endeavour is the act of planting, over a number of years to generations, and thus the progression of turning a traditional farm site into a forest.

The programme aims to:

  • Increase the trees present on a landscape and in so doing create a meaningful relationship between the local and regional communities and their natural environments.

  • Increase biodiversity, including richer connections with humans, this includes our needs; food, water, shelter, education, health and emotional relationships

  • Respond to environmental issues of our time; climate change, soil degradation, the sixth mass extinction.

  • Support local, holistic action that compliments a global climate movement.

  • Incorporate scientific enquiry, cross-cultural learning, artistic methodologies and long-term, intergenerational perspectives.

Cultural Reforesting is an open conversation, this statement is meant to be discussed and will evolve through a range of philosophies, ideas and actions. All-comers can elaborate on what this term may mean to them and their relationship with nature, as part of nature.
